Harry Potter Procrastinator!

The last 2 weeks have been the beginning of my love affair with the Harry Potter books. I am way too many years behind in this international phenomena, but hey better late than never! I just thought that I would pick up the 1st book while walking through Wal-mart one day, and decided to read it. I fell in love! I am now in the middle of the 4th book, and loving every minute! It's not a book easily put down.

Hmm.... let's see. A week and a half ago, my friend Angie and I met in downtown SLC in order to participate in the "Step Out for Diabetes" walk. It was something I had been looking forward to, and haha, of course the morning of, it was rainy and FREEZING! We got to the "this is the place heritage park" and immediately after we got out of Angie's car, the wind picked up and it started sprinkling! The first thought in my head was, "I am paying $15 for this??"

We went ahead and registered, got the free t-shirt, and got breakfast which was a cold white bread bagel with cream cheese on it. I couldn't help but think of all the carbs they were giving out at a Diabetes walk! You would think that the organizers for a diabetes event would have been a little smarter not to only have pure sugar drinks and white bread for breakfast! I just grabbed my usual bottled water!

The rain steadily got worse, as did the wind and I thought I would freeze clear to the bone! We ran and got in Angie's car to thaw out as much as possible before the actual walk began, and it felt wonderful! We joked that if we didn't participate in the walk, then that would have been a $15 dollar bagel, so we decided to tough it out. When all was said and done, it was a cool experience! I really enjoyed it because we were able to get free stuff at the end of the walk, as well as a free admission to the Hogle Zoo!

Lately it has come of interest to Brandon and I to start looking at homes in the Ogden area. We have had to be careful about some of the addresses we look at, because we wouldn't want to buy a home in areas of Ogden that help give it the nickname as the "ARMPIT" of Utah. We just want to get a feel for the pricing of the homes in our area, which happens to be a much nicer part of the Ogden area. (The entire city is not a dump, as many in the Utah population seem to think) We have been renting for just over 3 years now, and we are just sick of having our hard earned money being used to fatten someone else's wallet. So if we find our dream for a starter house, we will keep you all posted. But like I said, when it comes right down to it, we haven't made the etched in stone decision.

Well this was definitely one of those longer episodes of dopfdetails, but hey these posts open the window of our lives so you all can be somewhat involved!

Love to all y'all!

Thankful....

Once again, it is a Saturday night, and I am home alone watching "Flip that House", while Brandon is out on another man date with his good friend Craig. They went to the Utah State football game tonight, so I hope the game is going well and was well worth the drive! (ahem, this is USU I'm talking about) ;)

Today I spent most of the day with the sisters that are in the Relief Society, where we signed up to bring food and signed up to make some fun crafts. The food was great, and the crafts were fun too. I am always looking for opportunities to decorate my house with cool things that also happen to be affordable. It's also a plus when I can say that I made something myself, when in all actuality, I have never been very artsy fartsy. (Brandon has brought it to my attention that I tend to be more fartsy than artsy). So I made a glass block thingy that says "faith, hope and love" on it, and a wooden plaque thingamabobber too.

I am grateful for this opportunity that I have to be able to have my calling as Relief Society Pres in the branch that Brandon and I attend. I am learning so much from the wonderful sisters that I work with. I have the best counselors in the world. As I spend more time with the people, I am getting to know them better, and my love for them is growing. I am thankful to be able to associate with truly loving, and at times very bluntly honest people. This has really been an opportunity for me to come out of my "shell". I am usually a very selfish person when it comes to how I spend my time, but with more and more opportunities that I have for serving others, the more I grow to love them and I forget about my own struggles in life.

Well, I had better go and accomplish some late evening house cleaning! This is an opportunity to get is accomplished with out any interruptions!

Love to you all (those of you who actually still tune in to the occasional episodes of dopfdetails!)

CRAZY!

Once again, I am a slacker when it comes to updating my blog! GEEZ!

Life has gotten busier and busier and busier! That's not necessarily a bad thing though, because at last that keeps me out of trouble!

Last week was awesome! My grandma from Denver came over to visit for almost a week, and then my dad flew in for a big surprise to show up at my grandpa Voorhees' 80th B-day last Saturday!

Here's the story:

A couple of weeks ago, my dad called me from houston and asked if he could come up for this weekend and stay with Brandon and I in order to surprise my sister and her family, as well as his family that was all going to be at my grandpa's birthday party. He told the entire family that he would not be able to make it because he was inundated at work with all kinds of projects! ( So sometimes it's okay to lie)

So he came up and stayed with us, and being able to lie to my sister was half the fun! But even better was the reaction when we showed up at her house on Saturday morning when when opened the door! Her jaw dropped to the floor, (for those of you who know my sister, that's a big mouth, jk Katie! love ya!) and she started crying! All I could think was "YAY! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!" We spent time with her family, went to lunch, and then went on down for the next big surprise!

We arrived at my grandparents' house and my dad called them from his cell phone, and said that he was at a stop and called to wish my grandpa a happy b-day. My grandma asked where he was, and he told her that he was outside in the front of their house. My grandma didn't believe him, but he then told her to walk to the front door, so she did and when she saw us she started crying! That was priceless in and of itself! So needless to say, it was fun to be involved with this little surprising scheme!

The party was neat, I was able to spend some time with family that I don't get to see often, and it was neat to celebrate my grandpa's milestone birthday!

Dad's trip here was short, but it was great to see him!

Other than that, life has been great, just nothing too exciting!

Oh and Ben! It was great to talk to you for a while the other day! It's always great to laugh and talk with you!

For those of you that I haven't talked to for a while, it's been way too long! Hope to talk to some of you soon! Love to you all!

Not Ready!

Okay, so summer was DANG hot! I thought it was especially so because we went about 3 weeks without air conditioning in our duplex, as well as about a month without AC in our car! HOLY COW! That made for a seemingly long summer with some of the hottest temperatures and breaking records as well.

It is getting cooler, and now that I have done all the whining and complaining about the heat, saying that I can't take it any longer, it is finally getting cooler. Slowly but surely, it is getting cooler. I just got back from walking Lexi, and I was freezing! It's getting into the 60's at night, or even the high 50's and it's COLD! I don't know if I am ready for that. HEHE, I guess that I'm just never satisfied! I miss the cooler Autumns of Texas, where it's cooler but not cold for a while. It makes for beautiful weather. I even miss the humidity of Houston, because then I don't have to use a bottle of lotion every few weeks! With my diabetes, taking care of my skin is essential since I am prone to drier skin that the normal non-diabetic person. I also drink water like it's going out of style. (that and my daily dose of Diet Dr. Pepper, which is so bad and I really need to stop!)

Well, that's about as ordinary as my life gets. There are some people with much more exciting things happening in their lives, but I can say that I have no complaints. That's it....

Soon To Be September??

Oh hello! I can't believe that it's almost September!

I am sitting on my couch in my duplex, thinking of what is new and exciting in my life.

One of the coolest experiences of my life happened last Friday. As most of you know, I am a sign language interpreter. I had the opportunity to interpret for a lady who is Deaf, while she was giving birth to her baby! I was in the room the entire time, and it was really a neat experience. It's definitely during times like that, that I am baffled by those people who don't believe that there is a God. What a miracle it when human life comes to be and to be able to witness that is incredible.

I just found out last week that my sister who is expecting twins is having a boy and a girl! I am just thrilled for her and our family. There are already 2 grand daughters in our family on the account of my 2 older sisters, and 1 grand son. I already know that my dad is excited to have another grandson. And of course my mom is thrilled to pieces that she is getting more grand babies to spoil beyond all reason!

I am also grateful that recently I have been able to get in contact with some old friends that I haven't talked to since high school. Websites like facebook are so awesome, because it enables me to see how people have changed and how they are doing! I just can't believe how gorgeous everyone has become, and how well they are doing! It's just hard to imagine that it's already been 6 years since high school ended. People are getting married, and are starting their families! Yikes!

I am sure that y'all think I am some kind of cheeseball, but hey, we could all use some extra cheesiness in our lives.

Well, for those of you that do actually tune in from time to time to the episodes of dopfdetails, hope you continue to do so, and stay tuned! You never know what to expect!

Tired.....

Hey Y'all! Here I sit at the end of another seemingly long day.

I have had several days of waking up crazy early, followed by days of sleepless nights. I don't know what is wrong, but I hope it doesn't last much longer.

I am trying to think of what is new and exciting with us... and here is one exciting thing, my sister Jenny is visiting here from Seattle with her daughter Caroline! We haven't seen them for over a year and it is SO good to see them! She is expecting twins, and she will soon go to the Dr. to see if she's having 2 boys, 2 girls, or one of each! We are looking forward to this upcoming news! She has a little bit of a tummy showing, but other than that, it's difficult to know that she is expecting!

In other family news, my nephew Joshua just turned 4! I can't believe that it was 4 years ago that that little stinker came into our family! He is such a blast!

I do not have too much to say this time in regards to myself, but sometimes no news is good news!

I hope y'all are doing well, and that life is treating you great! Love to you all!

AUGUST ALREADY??!!

Well here we are folks... it's August! Time flies when you are having fun!

I hope you all are keeping cool in the midst of this hotter than H%&$ summer! Not having any air conditioning in our car has been quite an adventure! It makes me appreciate the few precious moments of the day when I get out of the shower and feel clean! The sweating starts during my getting ready in the morning, and continues until I get home at night from working. It really makes me think about how the heck people did it 100 years ago! I don't know if I could have done that. I am a little too spoiled in our day and age.

Well since it has been our summer for spontaneous spoilage, (all the car boo boo's, apartment ac going out, etc) I guess the Man upstairs didn't think that was enough! I went into my weekly Cinderella mode, and decided to vacuum our house. I plugged our 3 year old Dirt Devil vacuum, and it didn't take long for me to realize that it sucked, or actually, it didn't. I then within seconds smelled the often occurring burning rubber smell that usually meant that the belt that helped spin the brush wheel needed to be replaced. In the 3 years that we have had that, occasionally the belt would burn and it was 3 bucks for replacements at Walmart. It was our frame of mind that it was cheaper to just replace the belt and the vac would work just fine and dandy! For a limited time. This time, I disassembled the part of the vacuum to replace the belt, and I found that the belt had a mind of its own this time... it decided to melt itself onto the wheel, thus preventing me from replacing the little sucker! I couldn't do anything but laugh! I just thought about the last couple of months with financial bloopers, and it was either to react with laughter, or crying and swearing. I chose the former, thank goodness. I just looked heavenward and asked "You just had to throw me another curve ball didn't You?" So needless to say, Brandon and I went and bought a replacement for our vacuum. It was one of those "biting the bullet" moments along with the many others that we have had this summer. I immediately called my mom and told her about it, and we had a good laugh because it really has been "one of those" summers. My sister Katie found my misfortune quite amusing as well.

Today I took Lexi to the groomer's because she needed her teeth brushed (she had some serious DEMON breath) and her nails clipped (something that can be compared to pulling teeth) which is something we leave to the Heaven sent professionals! For those of you that haven't met our dog, she gets really excited when we ask "Do you wanna go Lexi?" She will start to jump up and down and get really excited to get out of the house. She also really enjoys car rides. It was a short ride though since we just went to the nearby groomer's. As soon as we got there, she didn't want to go inside because she knew what was about to happen. It was really cute because she was trying so hard not to be drug into the shop. Well if you have any idea what dogs go through in there, you wouldn't want to be subjected to that type of thing either! I think that if someone tried to clean my rear like they do in there, I would give someone a black eye!

Well, that is about as exciting as it gets at our house! AT LEAST FOR NOW!

Heaven only knows what tomorrow will bring!
